WaiverSign is one of those digital waiver solutions we recommended using, and in this section, we provide some background on our company, why our online waiver platform was created, and what our new partnership with ATTA means for members.
Our story doesn't begin with the software. It actually begins in the middle of the Grand Canyon. Nearly 60 years ago, a company called Western River Expeditions pioneered the concept of rafting vacations. We were the first operator to offer multi-day rafting trips to travelers, and we continue to be a leader in the whitewater rafting space.
Today, we're very fortunate to be able to say that Western River Expeditions has become one of the largest rafting companies in the world. We offer trips in the Grand Canyon, the Pacific Northwest, Costa Rica, and Southern Utah.
We've always focused on perfecting the guest experience, from beginning to end. For the longest time, that only meant direct interaction—taking phone calls so guests can book a trip, answering questions from someone who came to our front desk, interactions with river guides during trips, and the like.
But the reality is that today, an important portion of the guest experience happens through technology as guests interact indirectly with our companies. In order to perfect that part of the experience, we had to take steps to ensure that those initial impressions they had of our brand were professional. This included our website, our reservation systems, and our waivers—basically, everything that people interact with before they even see or speak to a person.
A decade ago, Western River's collection of documents was becoming a real pain. And not just for our guests, but also for our staff as well. We had years of boxes stored with signed waivers. And when you’re dealing with over half a century of documents, it’s nearly impossible to find anything in the stack.
We determined we had to make the liability waiver process easier, for our team, and for our customers. For our team, it was about making the process easier to administer, easier to organize, and easier to store. For our customers, it was about avoiding the hassle of trying to get waivers from one place to another, and back again.
So, we began working with insurance companies and attorneys like Chunnie to develop an online process. We wanted a process that would work well for our company, but that could also serve the rest of the travel industry. After a year or two of development and testing, WaiverSign was born.
Now, as part of a partnership with ATTA, we're offering our services to the members of the association at a discounted price. This applies to both paid business members as well as free community members. That means, for the current membership pricing, you'll get access to your own WaiverSign account, and all the benefits that come with it, including:
*As part of WaiverSign’s partnership with the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA), we jointly hosted a webinar on August 25, 2020. In that webinar, Online Waivers & Digital Release Forms, lawyer and adventure travel legal expert Chun T. Wright discussed participant liability concerns, and how online waivers help with mitigation. This page was adapted from that presentation.
